Pablo Picasso Paintings, 50 Best Works of Art

Pablo Picasso Paintings can touch you to your core and Pablo Picasso is arguably the most famous artist ever. I recently visited his exhibit at the MoMA and was inspired to finish this post. When you look at the artist, you find that he was truly immersed in finding new ways to express his voice through various styles of art. Pablo Picasso was known to use painting sculpting print making, along with using other methods of artistic expression such as ceramics and stage designing. What I find the most interesting about this artist is that his emotional state reflected his artwork. Now, my inquisitive viewer, you might ask: ” Isn’t that the methodology most artist?”, well yes. What differentiates himself from other artist is that Pablo Picasso continuously reinvented himself, switching between styles so drastically that his life’s work seemed to be the product of five or six great artists rather than just one. There is no better way to sum this idea up than to quote Pablo when he stated, “Whenever I wanted to say something, I said it the way I believed I should,”.

Most art critics and historians can agree that these periods can be broken into three categories: his “Blue”,”Rose”, and “Classical” period. Picasso’s “Blue” period (1901-1904) was coined that term because of the color that dominated nearly all of his paintings over these years. After the passing of his friend Carlos Casagemas, he was afflicted with a deep depression. He voiced this emotion by painting scenes of poverty, isolation, and anguish. He depicted these scenes by solely using shades of blue and green. This style of expression can be seen in “Blue Nude,” “La Vie” and “The Old Guitarist”. After conquering this debilitating disease, the introduction of warmer colors—including beiges, pinks and reds—in what is known as his “Rose Period” (1904-06). Paintings from these years include “Family at Saltimbanques” (1905), “Gertrude Stein” (1905-06) and “Two Nudes” (1906).  In the years between  1918 – 1927 are considered to be his “Classical” phase. This phase was inspired by the first World War revisiting a Realism art style and depicted a  more somber view of reality. From 1927 onwards, he inherited Surrealism as his style.Picasso’s most well-known Surrealist painting was during the Spanish Civil War: “Guernica”. Guernica is considered to be on of the greatest painting ever created.

I believe that art helps you connect to your soul. The more time you spend connected to your soul, the more you will learn about yourself and connect with others. Pablo Picasso was a master painter and his paintings can be used as a source of design and creative inspiration. I hope you enjoy them and if you do leave me a comment and let me know. Other than that have a very wonderful day and thanks for stopping by.

“Everyone wants to understand art. Why don’t we try to understand the song of a bird? Why do we love the night, the flowers, everything around us, without trying to understand them? But in the case of a painting, people think they have to understand. If only they would realize above all that an artist works of necessity, that he himself is only an insignificant part of the world, and that no more importance should be attached to him than to plenty of other things which please us in the world though we can’t explain them; people who try to explain pictures are usually barking up the wrong tree.”
